Blossom Forth

How many of you can name at least five key pieces of information about the Mother of the Khalsa, Mata Sahib Kaur Ji? Luckily for us, we are truly blessed to be able to learn about our Mother thanks to the hard work and dedication of true sevadaars. In this day and age, we access knowledge mainly through social media or a form of medium so it makes perfect sense to learn about the mother of the Khalsa through visual means. ‘Motherhood: The Journey of Mata Sahib Kaur’ is more than just a movie – it’s a blessed opportunity to enter a world of understanding so that we gain the knowledge of an iconic Sikhi female figure, whose seva still has an impact on our lives today. Many of us were in awe of the Sahibzaade after watching the movie, bringing millions back to their Sikhi roots. We should embrace the chance to dig deeper of our Sikhi roots by making the time to support ‘Motherhood: The Journey of Mata Sahib Kaur’.

As a female Sikh teacher in the UK, I feel so strongly about female empowerment. We tend to judge ourselves through the lens of everyday expectations which are dominated by social media; most of the time we feel the need to impress others by changing our appearance. But no – having an inspiring female role model like Mata Sahib Kaur ji motivates us all to break through these lens and to be spiritually driven in our lives, thus removing our need to rely on social media on how to be a strong woman. Mata ji helps us to be spiritually, mentally and physically strong. If we take the steps to embrace Mata Sahib Kaur ji’s teachings then we never feel lonely or deprived of a mother figure. The role that women have on this earth goes beyond the doors of their home – but for us to blossom forth and realise our true potential, we do need the guidance of our mother, Mata Sahib Kaur ji.
